3. St. Petersburg
Nevsky Prospect is the main avenue that snakes some 4.5km through the stunning city of St Petersburg. Planned by Peter the Great it is dotted with palaces and buildings of note, including the huge neo-classical Kazan Cathedral, the Art Nouveau Bookhouse, a handful of 18th century churches, the Rastrelliesque Stroganov Palace and the Anichkov Bridge dominated by statues of horses.
