Lawyers and barristers will race on static bikes in their offices, following their competitors on a live leader board. The law firms and barristers’ chambers taking part will compete to cycle a total distance of 1000km – the equivalent of London to Paris and back, riding in a minimum of 15 minute slots per person. So far, 17 firms and barristers’ chambers have already signed up including Latham & Watkins, Reed Smith and Sidley Austin.

Since its inception in 2012, Tour de Law has raised nearly £500,000 for the charity, with a total of 116 teams taking part and this year.

Julie Tuttle at Latham & Watkins says: “We began supporting Breast Cancer Care via Tour de Law in 2013, the year my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, so it felt quite personal to me and it’s a great way of giving back for the fabulous care she received from the charity and show how grateful I am that she is still with us today.

“I love the way Tour de Law brings the whole office together for such a great charity, and the atmosphere over the two days is electric. It’s such a fun event and takes you outside of your day-to-day work life and the whole office is very upbeat. It’s a feel-good factor, exercising regardless of fitness abilities and at the same time raising money for such a great cause.”

All money raised at the fundraising event will enable Breast Cancer Care to provide, care and support to all those affected by breast cancer and fund vital research.

Claire Pulford, Assistant Director of Events, Community and Students at Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now says: “We are thrilled that Tour de Law continues into its eighth year and it keeps getting bigger year on year. This is one of the largest sporting events in the legal sector, and a great and fun opportunity for law firms and chambers to race against their rivals, while raising funds to support the 62,000 women and men diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year. Now our two charities have merged, there has never been a better time to support this vital cause.”

In April 2019, Breast Cancer Care merged with Breast Cancer Now to form the UK’s first comprehensive breast cancer charity. From research to care, the new charity has people affected by breast cancer at its heart – providing support for today and hope for the future.
