One of his first high profile cases is when Geragos represents Susan McDougal in an embezzlement case. McDougal was earlier convicted of fraud in the Whitewater case that involved President Bill Clinton. She is acquitted of the embezzlement charges.

Bio: Another Lawyer Monthly Rich List entrant who is often labelled as a “Celebrity Lawyer”, Mark Geragos has made a name and a lot of money for himself as a criminal defence attorney in the US.

Gregaros, like fellow ‘celebrity lawyer’ Robert Shapiro is a graduate of the Loyola Law School. After graduating in 1992 Geragos built a highly successful career in criminal and civil litigation and defence. He rose to prominence in the late 90’s with his representation of convicted Whitewater figure Susan McDougal, eventually securing a presidential pardon for his client before going on to achieve a non-guilty verdict in an embezzlement trial.

Following these successes Geragos represented a veritable who’s who of clients including Michael Jackson (later re-placed by Thomas Meserasu), Winona Ryder, Bill Clinton’s brother Roger jr, James Bond director Lee Tamahori, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Nate Dogg, Kesha and was thrust into the limelight once more when he represented R & B singer Chris Brown following his assault charge against then girlfriend Rihanna.  His criminal trial work includes several dismissals for murder charges in addition to the dismissal of all felony charges against exiled leader of the Chinese shadow government, Hung Bao Zhong.

His credits extend outside the criminal courts, and Geragos has been involved in numerous landmark civil litigation class action cases, including holding a record for one of the top 10 verdicts in California history in which, as lead counsel in a groundbreaking case, he delivered a  $38 million against New York Life Insurance and AXA insurance.

As an Armenian-American, Geragos has a close relationship with the Armenian community, including the Armenia religious community. He also serves on the Advisory Committee of Birthright Armenia, as the chairman of Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

His face is recognisable to many thanks in part to his regular appearances as a legal commentator on shows including the “Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Dateline NBC,” “Larry King Live,” “Greta Van Susteren’s On the Record,” “60 minutes,” and “48 hours.”

Geragos has won a host of accolades throughout his years including being the only lawyer besides Johnnie Cochran ever named “Lawyer of the Year” in both Criminal and Civil arenas.
