19 Lawyer Moves www. lawyer-monthly .com MAR 2019 Allen & Overy is expanding its regulatory consulting business with the appointment of Tom Lodder as Managing Director of A&O Consulting based in London, covering the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Tom was most recently Managing Director, Head of Regulatory Policy at Barclays, a position he had held since 2016. He qualified as a lawyer with Clifford Chance then moved in-house to Barclays where he spent time in both Singapore and London. Most recently, he had been leading policy globally on key strategic regulatory issues such as Brexit, US regulatory recalibration, capital and resolvability and market infrastructure regulation in Europe and Asia. Due to client demand to provide more strategic consulting and regulatory advice, A&O Consulting launched in September 2018 with the hire of Sally Dewar, Chief Executive Officer, who leads the business globally. It is designed to fill the gap in the market with advisers that have both in-depth legal and technical insight and expertise from regulatory, firm and professional services backgrounds. This expertise provides strategic and practical advice to clients on their regulatory remediation programmes and challenges, as well as offering scope and scale to deliver tailored business outcomes. Sally Dewar, Chief Executive Officer of A&O Consulting commented: “We’ve had a really positive response from clients since our launch last year and we’re already working on several mandates. Having Tom on board with his deep regulatory expertise and global experience will help us to build out our high-quality offering further. Combining legal services with consulting and regulatory advisory services allows us to provide a one-stop offering for our clients, which in turn creates cost efficiencies through knowledge transfer and a deep understanding of the client in areas where a strategic initiative is borne out of a regulatory change or action.” Tom Lodder’s appointment follows the recent launch of A&O Consulting in Australia and Asia Pacific, which will be led by Lee Alam. Sally continued: “Tom and Lee’s appointments are the first of a number of planned hires internationally. We’ve made good progress with recruitment over the past few months to meet the demand we’ve been experiencing and we’re aiming to have most of the first phase of our core team in place by this summer.” Tom Lodder Appointed as MD of A&O Consulting DLA Piper announced the appointment of Maura Dineen as a Tax partner in the firm's newly opened Dublin office. This is the fifth partner hire for DLA Piper in Dublin in a month, following the announcements in January of Conor Houlihan (Finance & Projects), Éanna Mellett (Corporate), Mark Rasdale (Intellectual Property & Technology) and Ciara McLoughlin (Employment). Maura will be joining the firm in the coming months from Mason Hayes & Curran, where she has been a partner since 2015.
