Former employees at Elon Musk’s Tesla have filed a lawsuit against the luxury electric vehicle manufacturer, claiming its decision to carry out a “mass layoff” violated federal law because it failed to give advance notice of the redundancies.

The lawsuit was filed by two former employees who said they were terminated from Tesla’s Gigafactory plant in Sparks, Nevada in June alongside more than 500 other staff members.

The workers claim Tesla failed to comply with federal laws on mass layoffs that require a 60-day notification period under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. They are seeking class-action status for all former US employees of the company who were let go in May or June without prior notice.

"Tesla has simply notified the employees that their terminations would be effective immediately," the complaint reads.
