Back in Court over Patent Row- Apple and Samsung

31 Mar, 2014

Samsung has been accused of “systematically” copying some of Apple’s most recognised features.

Some of these feature include, the “slide to unlock” function.

The South Korean firm, Samsung are however arguing that they pioneered the idea, and it was in fact Apple who did the copying.

According to the BBC, Apple said in court: “Apple revolutionised the market in personal computing devices.

“Samsung, in contrast, has systematically copied Apple’s innovative technology and products, features and designs, and has deluged markets with infringing devices.”

Another feature Samsung are accused of copying is the ‘tap-to-call’ feature. When a number appears on a webpage, the user simply needs to click on I for a call to that number to be made.

The wider question to arise from the case is whether certain types of software can be considered patentable.
