National business law firm DWF is strengthening its 60-strong national Employment team with the strategic appointment of City heavyweight partner, Helga Breen, who joins as Head of Employment in London.

Joining DWF’s London office from Lawrence Graham, Helga’s experience of advising on complex HR projects, financial services regulation particularly the conduct of regulatory disputes and investigations, mergers and acquisitions, boardroom disputes and executive recruitment and terminations, will further support the growth of the national Employment team’s offering.

Helga recently led the confidential investigation on behalf of the British Bankers’ Association into the alleged manipulation of LIBOR. Her significant experience of working within the financial services sector will further support DWF’s approach to market.

Helga also has leading expertise in the establishment and operation of public bodies such as the FSA, the Financial Ombudsman Scheme, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, Natural England, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the Legal Services Board and the Office for Legal Complaints. Helga acted successfully for the Office for Legal Complaints in the Law Society of England and Wales v the Secretary of State for Justice and the OLC, the leading case on staff transfers in the public sector.

Mark Hammerton, National Head of Employment at DWF, said: “Helga’s extensive experience of working across a number of DWF’s chosen industry sectors makes her an excellent addition to our growing team and this strategic appointment strengthens the breadth and depth of our offering to clients, enabling us to enhance our service to clients in our chosen sectors.”

Helga Breen added: “DWF’s national Employment team has an excellent reputation and the firm’s sector approach is a great fit for my expertise. This is an exciting time for me to be joining DWF; London is the key gateway for national and international clients and the platform for DWF’s global business. I am really looking forward to working within the 60-strong national Employment team and contributing to the future growth of the firm, in London and nationally.”

DWF is committed to doubling the size of its London office over the next three years through lateral hires and organic growth, and Helga’s appointment is the latest in a number of high profile hires for the firm in London. In September the firm announced the lateral hire of an 11-partner insurance team from Greenwoods, five of whom are based in London, this was followed by the appointment of Paul Greaves, insurance partner, in December 2013.
