Apple acquires media firm Topsy Labs

03 Dec, 2013

Apple have bought Topsy Labs, a media data analytics firm, designed to track customer sentiment on social media websites.

The software can track figures such as, who is the most influential on Twitter and what topics are trending.

Apple have not said what they plan to do with Topsy.

According to the BBC, an Apple spokesman said: “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss out purpose.”

It could be that Apple plan to use Topsy for clever product placement across social media sites.

More commonly, such software is used to provide a more personalised experience for the user by using your recent searches to generate appropriate adverts.
