Olswang welcomes new Pensions Partner Ron Burgess

21 May, 2013

International law firm Olswang has strengthened its pensions offering with the arrival of Ron Burgess, who joined the partnership from 13 May 2013.

Previously a partner at Lawrence Graham, Ron has also spent time at Allen & Overy, Freshfields and on secondment to the Pensions Regulator as a senior lawyer.  Ron originally trained and qualified in South Africa.

Ron has a wealth of experience in advising corporates, trustees and insolvency practitioners on the full spectrum of pension-related matters, including advice on scheme funding and funding volatility reduction exercises, liability management and complex benefit design changes, as well as the pension related aspects of numerous corporate transactions, group reorganisations and insolvency events.  Ron’s experience also includes advising in respect of debt apportionment arrangements generally, as well as the more recently introduced flexible apportionment arrangements and advising companies with unaffordable pension debt.  From his time at the Regulator, Ron brings with him a unique understanding of the pensions  issues facing corporate clients and a strong market profile, which has seen him involved in the pension aspects of numerous high profile transactions in which pensions were a central element.

Ron Burgess, newly appointed Partner at Olswang, comments: “Olswang has a track record of approaching pensions issues commercially and pragmatically – Olswang provides its clients with first-rate pension advice.  Olswang’s pensions team already boasts some stellar names amongst its clients and I look forward to continuing to build and develop what is an already successful practice.”

Fabrizio Carpanini, Partner and Head of the Corporate Group at Olswang, comments: “Not only is Ron an excellent pensions lawyer, he also stands out for his experience at the Pensions Regulator, which means he understands how to navigate the intricacies of the system and find the best solutions for our clients. We are sure that his breadth of knowledge and expertise will fit well with our sector focus approach and look forward to having him on our team.”
