Mehmet Gün & Partners boosts firmwide capability with the promotion of three new partners

Leading Turkish law firm Mehmet Gün & Partners has announced the promotion of Orçun Çetinkaya, Özge Atılgan Karakulak and Pelin Baysal to the partnership with immediate effect. These promotions will bring the number of partners at the firm to 10.


Orçun Çetinkaya joined Mehmet Gün & Partners in 2004 and leads the firm’s commercial dispute resolution capability. He specialises in commercial litigation, arbitration and business crimes. On the contentious side, Orçun has considerable experience in multijurisdictional commercial litigation, arbitration, construction disputes, tax litigation, customs disputes and labour & employment disputes. On the non-contentious side, he regularly advises local and multinational clients in relation to regulated markets, construction & real estate projects and labour & employment matters. Orçun has considerable experience in arbitration and is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration.


Özge Atılgan Karakulak specialises in intellectual property rights, life sciences, antitrust and public procurement. She joined the firm in 2004 and represents leading research-based pharmaceutical companies in all aspects of complex patent litigation. In addition to advising multinational life science companies on issues including registration, pricing, reimbursement, promotion, and merger control and abusive conduct, Özge serves as counsel to trade associations in the life sciences sector and regularly advises on the drafting of regulatory policy papers and regulation proposals to the Turkish governmental authorities. Whilst at Mehmet Gün & Partners, Özge initiated the first pharmaceutical data protection actions in Turkey. 


Pelin Baysal practices in the corporate and commercial department and concentrates on mergers and acquisitions, commercial litigation and insurance and reinsurance law. She has significant experience advising local and international clients on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, inward investment and setting up and restructuring operations in Turkey. Pelin also advises numerous reinsurers and insurers with respect to various types of liabilities under Turkish Law and advises on litigation, arbitration aspects, as well as coverage issues with respect to different types of policies. She also works as a litigator in matters relating to insurance, unfair competition and general commercial disputes.


The firm has seen significant expansion in the last few years as the Turkish economy continues its growth trajectory outside the Eurozone. The corporate team was reinforced by the arrival of Serra Basoglu Gurkaynak who joined the firm in January 2012 to head up the corporate department, having previously served at White & Case in New York and then as Head of Legal at Coca-Cola International. The firm undertakes significant transactional and corporate work in Central and Eastern Europe and has a specialist Russia Desk together with expertise in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Japan. The firm’s market leading intellectual property and dispute resolution practices have also grown rapidly in recent years, serving leading international brands and major businesses investing in the fast growing Turkish market.
