The global law firm Jones Day announced that Wesley R. Johnson, Jr. has been named Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s New York Office. Mr. Johnson succeeds Willis Goldsmith, who has led Jones Day in New York since January 1, 2008, and who steps down in accordance with the terms of the Firm’s partnership agreement. Mr. Goldsmith will continue his active practice advising clients in a variety of labor and employment matters as a partner, and will continue to be based in New York.

Mr. Johnson’s practice focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions in a wide variety of business sectors. He has also handled matters in the mining and natural resources sector in various jurisdictions in Africa.

“Wesley has demonstrated extraordinary leadership during his long tenure as the Partner-in-Charge of our Paris Office, a leading force in the French legal market,” said Steve Brogan, Managing Partner of Jones Day. “The management skills that he developed in that role make him extremely well suited to lead our New York Office, the largest office in the Firm and one that is marked by the highest levels of competency in all disciplines necessary to respond to client needs in New York and to do so with real efficiency. Wesley’s talents as an M&A lawyer are among the reasons Jones Day has been ranked #1 for number of deals by both Bloomberg and Thomson for 13 consecutive years. His experience advising clients on acquisitions in Europe as well as advising European clients on acquisitions elsewhere will make him a unique resource for clients seeking representation in the important New York market.”
