DWF ANNOUNCES MERGER WITH FISHBURNS LLP
18 Jan, 2013
Business law firm, DWF and leading Professional Indemnity practice, Fishburns LLP, have today announced their intention to merge as of 1 February 2013. In addition to supporting DWF’s ambitious growth plans to become a top 20 law firm, Fishburns’ strength in the Professional Indemnity Insurance market adds weight to DWF’s 750 strong Insurance team and their goal of becoming a top three insurance law firm.
The merger will further bolster DWF’s presence in London. In particular, supporting the firm’s commitment to continue its investment in the City where the firm already operates in all of its practice areas. The merger brings the combined firms’ London team to a total of 288, incorporating an Insurance team of 248.
Fishburns also has offices in Bristol and Dublin, which will further expand DWF’s geographical coverage, enabling it to explore new regions. This follows on from DWF’s merger with Scottish-based commercial law firm, Biggart Baillie, in July 2012, which saw Edinburgh and Glasgow join the firm’s portfolio.
Andrew Leaitherland (pictured), Managing Partner & CEO of DWF, said: “This merger significantly enhances our position in the Professional Indemnity market. Fishburns’ experience enables us to continue our investment in niche practice areas and consequently raise the bar around client delivery.”
From 1 February, the Fishburns business will be known as DWF Fishburns adding a further 210 people to DWF’s 1,780 people nationwide. Antony Marsh, Senior Partner at Fishburns, will join the DWF board and take a leading role in continuing the development of the firm’s Professional Indemnity practice.
Antony Marsh, Senior Partner at Fishburns, commented: “Merging with DWF provides Fishburns with a growth platform that will enable us to build on our already strong Professional Indemnity offering whilst at the same time providing a wider range of services to our clients.”
Paul Berry, National Head of Insurance at DWF, added: “Fishburns is highly respected within its field, combining our specialist expertise considerably expands our Professional Indemnity offering, enabling us to provide insurance clients with a complete portfolio of services on a national and international basis. Additionally, Fishburns’ expertise in foreign jurisdiction litigation will also enhance our London based International team which has made great strides over the last four years in cross border claims work.”
