DLA Piper continues to lead global M&A legal advisor league tables

DLA Piper has retained its number one ranking by deal volume in 2012 among the top corporate law firms, both globally and in the United Kingdom, according to mergermarket’s league tables for legal advisors. In addition, the firm retained its fourth position ranking in the Americas.
DLA Piper’s involvement in 350 transactions in 2012 valued at approximately US$55 billion, as reported bymergermarket, reflects an increase in the number and value of deals the firm advised upon in several markets.
In addition, Thomson Reuters’ league table for legal advisors saw DLA Piper rise one place to be ranked first globally for mid-market deals and by one place to be ranked first for small-cap deals in Europe. The firm also retained its number one ranking in the UK for mid-market and small-cap deals. This was in addition to increases in the rankings for mid-market and small-cap deals in the US.
The firm also retained its position in Bloomberg’s Global M&A Legal Advisory rankings, where it was ranked second for global volume and fourth for US volume.
Noteworthy deals in which DLA Piper was involved in 2012 include representing Pfizer in the sale of its Nutrition business to Nestlé and the planned spin-off of its animal health business in a deal worth $11.9 billion; Human Genome Sciences, Inc. in its acquisition by GlaxoSmithKline PLC for $3.6 billion; JDA Software Group, Inc. in its acquisition by RedPrairie for $1.9 billion; Discovery Communications in its acquisition of the SBS Nordic operations of ProSiebenSat.1 Group for $1.7 billion; and BP PLC in the acquisition of its Carson Refinery by Tesero Refining and Marketing Company for $2.5 billion. The firm also represented AnadoluEfes in a $1.9 billion strategic alliance with SABMiller plc and P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. in its $1.1 billion going-private transaction.
