CPD reminder from the Bar Standards Board

11 Jan, 2013

Avoid a fine and get your CPD record card in before the deadline on 31 January 2013, urges the Bar Standards Board today.

Around 6000 barristers have already emailed or posted their CPD record card but thousands have yet to send them in. Barristers who miss the deadline could be fined £300.

Chair of the Bar Standards Board, Baroness Ruth Deech (pictured) said: “If you have already emailed or posted your card then there is no need to worry. The CPD record card is more than just a New Year routine, it proves you have kept your knowledge up-to-date and is a Code of Conduct requirement. I urge all practitioners to email or post their record cards in good time.”

Practitioners are required to return a signed record card (in hard copy or PDF) indicating the CPD hours that they completed in 2012 under the New or Established Practitioners’ Programme. Signed record cards in PDF format can be emailed to cpdrecords@barstandardsboard.org.uk.

CPD hours must be completed by 31 December 2012, although practitioners have until 31 January 2013 to submit their completed record cards.

Confirmation of receipt will be sent where an email address has been provided.

In certain circumstances, such as maternity leave, illness or bereavement, you may apply to the Bar Standards Board for an extension of time or a waiver of these requirements. More information on extensions or waivers is available here or you can email cpdrecords@barstandardsboard.org.uk
