30 Oct, 2012
Baker & McKenzie beat 5 other law firms to be named Fastest Firm as part of Breast Cancer Care’s Tour de Law cycling challenge. Baker & McKenzie covered the staggering 500km from London to Paris on office based exercise bikes, donated by Wattbike free of charge, in just 14 hours on 24th October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Baker & McKenzie beat Ashurst, Charles Russell, Eversheds, Ince & Co and Simmons & Simmons to win the coveted title. All the money raised through Tour de Law will help support the 50,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.
Ed Poulton, Partner at Baker & McKenzie and co-chair of its Charity Committee, says: “Congratulations to all the firms involved in Tour de Law. We were delighted to win, especially as Breast Cancer Care is one of our firm charities. It has been a fantastic event, generating huge energy and enthusiasm (not to mention a strong competitive spirit) from both participants and supporters. Many thanks to Breast Cancer Care for organising such a successful event!”
Cherie Blair, who has been a Breast Cancer Care patron for 15 years, says: “I was thrilled to hear that so many law firms decided to get involved in Breast Cancer Care’s Tour de Law cycling challenge. On behalf of the charity I want to say a huge thank you to all those involved. The money raised will enable Breast Cancer Care to ensure that no one need face alone the shocking news of a breast cancer diagnosis or the turmoil of treatment.”
Breast cancer is now the most common cancer amongst women in the UK. All the money raised through Tour de Law will enable Breast Cancer Care to provide free expert information and professional support when it’s needed most.
