DLA Piper hosts second annual Global Women's Leadership Summit

26 Oct, 2012

DLA Piper’s Leadership Alliance for Women (LAW) will host its second Global Women’s Leadership Summit on November 12-13, in Chicago, focusing on the role of the general counsel as a business partner with the CEO, board of directors and business units.

“Last year’s inaugural DLA Piper Global Women’s Leadership Summit was a huge success and we’re delighted to again present this unique opportunity for our clients and colleagues to come together to discuss some of the most pressing professional challenges facing women in today’s legal environment,” said Claudia Salomon, co-chair of DLA Piper’s International Arbitration practice and chair of the Summit.

The event will feature an evening reception and dinner on Monday, November 12, highlighted by remarks from Virginia Delegate Barbara Comstock; former Maryland Lieutenant Governor and US Deputy Assistant Attorney General Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; and Thomson Reuters Digital Editor Chrystia Freeland. The panel will discuss the immediate ramifications of the November 2012 US elections on the corporate and finance world as well as the economic and business issues most likely to arise following the elections.

On Tuesday, November 13, attendees, including women general counsel, associate general counsel and other executive-level women in the corporate legal department, will hear from a dynamic group of women, such as Anne Mulcahy, former Xerox corporation chairman and CEO; Donna Brazile, vice chair of the Democratic National Committee and, as manager of Vice President Al Gore’s presidential campaign, the first African-American woman to run a presidential campaign; Judy Smith, former White House deputy press secretary and crisis management expert; Susan Cain, negotiations consultant and best-selling author; and other esteemed general counsel, directors and executives from top public and private companies.

Moderators and panelists will discuss the many roles of today’s general counsel and how best to build effective partnerships with the CEO, board and business units. Their discussions will shed light on the personal and professional challenges faced by women general counsel and how to address these challenges.
