Amarchand Mangaldas appoints European and Competition Law expert John Handoll as Senior Advisor

Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. (referred as Amarchand Mangaldas hereafter), India’s leading full service law firm has, effective this October, 2012, appointed Mr. John Handoll as Senior Advisor, European and Competition Law in the Firm’s Competition Law practice. A specialist competition and regulatory lawyer with over 32 years experience, Mr. Handoll has worked in a number of European jurisdictions – notably the UK, Belgium and Ireland – and was, until recently, heading the Competition & Regulation practice in a major Dublin-based law firm.

Mr. Handoll has worked on a broad range of competition matters and his diverse experience includes;  representation of clients in State aid procedures before the European Commission, advising on restrictive agreements and on the application of EU and national exemptions, advising on application of Irish and EU merger control rules, public procurement, telecommunications and EU rules on free movement.

 

Mr. Handoll is co-author of the Irish chapter in ABA “Competition Laws outside the United States”. He has also published and lectured widely in the area of EU law. He has also been involved in law firm management, as head of small practice groups for over 20 years and as a member of the management committee of a 50+ partner Irish law firm focusing on financial and training matters.

 

Widely acclaimed as a top practitioner of European and Competition Law by a number of international media and legal publications like Legal 500, Chambers Europe, Mr. Handoll is also the author of two full length volumes: Capital, Payments and Money Laundering in the European Union (Richmond Law & Tax, 2006, two volumes) and Free Movement of Persons in the EU (Wiley Chancery, 1995).

 

Mr. Handoll graduated from Manchester University with an LLB Degree (Hons.) in 1978. He was awarded a Diploma in European Integration from Amsterdam University in 1979. In 1980, he was called to the English Bar and was admitted as a solicitor (England & Wales) in 1991. He qualified as an Irish solicitor in 1997.
