K&L Gates’ Peter Kalis Elected to Fifth Term as Chairman

26 Sep, 2012

The Management Committee of global law firm K&L Gates LLP has voted unanimously to elect Peter J. Kalis (pictured) to a fifth consecutive term as the firm’s Chairman and Global Managing Partner, through February 2017. Comprising 60 voting members representing the firm’s offices and major practice disciplines, the Management Committee voted for the reappointment after partner consultations in each of its 41 offices.

Kalis has served continuously as head of the firm since 1997, when Kirkpatrick & Lockhart (K&L), as it then was known, was a regional firm with six offices in the eastern time zone of the United States. With nearly 2,000 lawyers in 41 offices on four continents, the firm today serves clients through offices in the world’s nine largest economies and elsewhere in key commercial, financial, and governmental venues.

During his tenure, Kalis has guided the firm through eight mergers, helping to position K&L Gates as one of only three U.S.-based firms to rank in the top 10 in lawyer headcount among such firms in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Greater China market, and Japan. In each year of his leadership, the firm has posted increased revenues, with 2011 being K&L Gates’ third consecutive year above the billion dollar mark.

K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Asia, David K.Y. Tang commented: “Pete’s leadership and clear-sightedness to align us with the global economy positioned the Asia offices to thrive during the financial crisis, and his continued service will allow us all to take the next leap forward.”

“Pete’s visionary role in creating a truly integrated global platform, combined with his strong commitment to Europe as part of that platform, have been, and will continue to be, the source of inspiration, encouragement, energy, and success for the entire European practice of this great law firm,” said Martin Lane, Managing Partner, Europe.

“Pete Kalis provides an incisive, disciplined, strategic direction for our firm that positions us for continued success,” stated Eugene C. Pridgen, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, U.S. “We are pleased that he is willing to serve another term as Chairman and Global Managing Partner.”

Kalis said: “It remains an honor and privilege to serve our firm and our profession.”
