Appleby, the world’s largest provider of offshore legal, fiduciary and administration services, is expanding its corporate transactions capabilities in Asia with the relocation of Isle of Man-based Corporate Partner, John Melia, to the firm’s Hong Kong office.

John, who joined Appleby as a Partner in 2009, is returning to work in Asia, where he was based for six years with international onshore firm, Reed Smith Richards Butler in Hong Kong and Beijing, where he was chief representative of the Beijing office. He has extensive experience dealing with mergers and acquisitions, listings, private equity transactions, banking and finance matters, and general corporate/commercial matters.

Appleby’s Office Managing Partner in Hong Kong, Frances Woo, said: “John is very much seen as a rising star in the commercial world and has a wealth of experience having worked offshore for the past four years, and onshore for over a decade with major firms in London, the Middle East and also the Far East.

“The move to bolster our well-established team here on the ground in Hong Kong reflects continued growth in demand for corporate advice and services in Asia. The timing is right for John and his family, and for Appleby.”

John Melia added: “I am really excited to be joining our established and experienced transactions team in Hong Kong, and look forward to helping them build on their success in delivering the highest standards of service to our clients in Asia and world wide.”
