Gide Loyrette Nouel boosts China capabilities through two new partner appointments

International law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel (GLN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Fan Jiannian and Liu Yue as local partners of the firm’s Shanghai and Beijing offices respectively. These promotions to partnership are effective from 24 May 2012.  They join 5 other lawyers appointed as local partners across the Firm’s international network (in Budapest, Kyiv, London, Moscow and New York). 

 

Based in Shanghai, Fan Jiannian joined GLN in 2001. After commencing in the Shanghai office, he spent 3 years in GLN’s Paris office where he obtained significant exposure to European transactional and advisory work before returning to the Shanghai office in 2005. Jiannian has more than a decade of international corporate and M&A experience advising public and private sector clients, across a range of sectors including automotive, appliances, manufacturing and industrial gases. He brings deep expertise in his core practice areas of foreign direct investment, corporate law matters, banking and finance, and M&A. He has worked extensively in relation to the acquisition of stakes in listed Chinese companies, an area where he has advised on a number of landmark transactions.

 

A member of the Chinese Bar, Fan Jiannian holds a Bachelor’s degree in French Literature and a Certificate in International Business Law from Fudan University (Shanghai), a Masters degree in French Business Law and a Master’s degree in Banking and Financial Law from the University of Paris 1 – Pantheon-Sorbonne. Jiannian speaks Chinese, French and English.

 

Liu Yue, based in Beijing, joined GLN in 2000. With more than a decade of cross border experience, Yue’s practice focuses on advising European and Chinese clients on a broad range of projects, infrastructure, energy and construction matters. His expertise covers major infrastructure, energy and public utility concession & PPP projects throughout China (including water and wastewater treatment, public transport, city lighting and district cooling), in addition to engineering and construction related mandates. His solid track record in these fields is enhanced by significant experience advising on foreign direct investment and M&A matters, particularly in the energy, water, transport and industrial sectors in China.

 

A member of the Chinese Bar, Yue holds a Bachelor’s degree and Postgraduate diploma in International Law from the China Foreign Affairs University (formerly the Foreign Affairs College) and a Masters degree in Financial and Banking Law from Queen Mary College of the University of London. Yue speaks Chinese and English.

 

Head of the Beijing office, Thomas Urlacher commented: “Fan Jiannian and Liu Yue are both seasoned specialists in complex, cross border China matters and enhance our existing capabilities  in corporate / M&A and projects, energy & construction in the region. They offer our clients deep experience advising on China outbound investment and China inbound investment matters.”
