FORRESTERS LEAPS TO SECOND IN TRADE MARK APPLICATION RANKINGS

22 May, 2012

Intellectual property specialists Forresters have leapt up to second in a list of UK firms filing the most Community Trade Mark applications, new figures have revealed.

The figures – released by the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) – also ranks the firm sixth across the whole of Europe.

Forresters partner Steve Lane (pictured), who heads up the firm’s London office’s trade mark team, hailed the ranking as evidence that the firm was continuing to grow and perform “astonishingly well” in a competitive and challenging marketplace.

Community Trade Marks are unified registrations which provide protection across all 27 member states of the European Union.

Each year ITMA publishes a list of firms making the most applications – Forresters filed almost 500 applications in 2011, an increase of more than 38 per cent – the second highest in the UK. That increase also placed them sixth in the list of European firms.

Mr Lane said he was “delighted” with the firm’s ranking, and that it reflected the efforts of both its Birmingham and London offices. “For a mid-size firm, we have performed incredibly well,” he said. “This is tangible evidence that we can achieve one of the highest rates of growth in filings whilst continuing to place huge emphasis on excellent service and personal client relationships. People turn to us because we get to know their business and act as an extension to their team, using our expertise to make what are often very complex matters relatively simple.”

Forresters, which is one of the UK’s leading intellectual property firms, recently expanded its network of offices by opening a new branch in Munich.

Mr Lane said the firm was increasingly acting for clients who had interests in several European states, irrespective of where in the world they were based.

He added: “The figures are genuinely a good benchmark for us – to be ranked so highly is a sterling effort and testimony to a targeted campaign as part of a concerted, integrated push to attract new business whilst continuing to develop existing client relationships.”

The ITMA figures reflect the numbers of Community Trade Mark filings for January to December 2011.
