Jones Day welcomes Renato Antonini as international trade partner in the Brussels office

The global law firm Jones Day is pleased to announce the arrival of Renato Antonini, who will lead the Firm’s international trade practice in Brussels.  He will be part of the Government Regulation Practice, which comprises over 70 lawyers in Jones Day offices around the world. Renato Antonini’s arrival demonstrates the Firm’s commitment to expanding its capabilities in Brussels, a center of international trade as the capital of Europe.

Mr. Antonini is highly experienced in EU and WTO trade law (e.g., trade defense (anti-dumping; anti-subsidy; anti-circumvention) and a full range of other trade matters); EU and Italian competition law (e.g., cartel, abuse of dominance, State aid); and EU and Italian customs law matters (e.g., tariff classification, customs valuation, export control).

We are happy to announce the arrival of Renato Antonini, whose well-recognized competencies in EU and WTO Trade will be highly valued by many of our clients who need these capabilities.  Renato will support the Brussels office’s efforts to enhance our client offering, particularly in view of the importance of Brussels in international trade proceedings,” said Bernard Amory, Partner-in-charge of the Brussels office.

Government Regulation Practice Leader Noel Francisco adds “Renato has an outstanding record of successfully guiding clients through some of the most challenging trade-related matters facing both companies and governments, and his presence will deepen the experience available to our clients in the key area of international trade.”

Renato’s presence will deliver even greater added value for our clients in Brussels and across Europe, given his in-depth knowledge and practical experience in trade law, combined with a strong sense of client service that is essential to our Firm,” said Mary Ellen Powers, Jones Day’s Partner-in-Charge of EMEA.

A member of the Rome and Brussels Bars, Mr. Antonini practiced EU and Italian law, as well as obtaining an LL.M at the University of Edinburgh, before joining Van Bael & Bellis, where he became a partner specializing in trade and competition law.

Mr. Antonini received the ILO Client Choice award for EU Trade and Customs law in 2011 and 2012 (announcement forthcoming). He is also Chairman of CeSDE (Centro Studi di Diritto Doganale Europeo), an Italian center for the study of EU trade and customs law.

In addition to authoring articles, Mr. Antonini collaborated on the latest editions of a leading treatise on EU trade protection regulations. He is a regular speaker at conferences and has provided specialized training in trade law to ministerial officials for various foreign governments.

I am delighted to join Jones Day, a Firm with tremendous global reach and superb lawyers and clients.  I look forward to contributing to the international trade practice and to even further strengthening what the Firm can deliver to its clients in Europe and worldwide,” said Mr. Antonini.
