Jacques Chirac guilty of corruption
Ex-President of France, Jaqcues Chirac, has been found guilty of corruption by a French court.
The 79-year old former head of state and the ex-mayor of Paris was handed a two year suspended custodial sentence for the crime of abusing public confidence and diverting public funds, dating back to his time as mayor of the French capital which ran from 1977 to 1995.
President from 1995 to 2007, Mr Chirac was accused of paying members of his Rally for the Republic (RPR) party for jobs that were not real.
Due to ill-health, Mr Chirac was absent from court when the verdict was delivered.
