US HEALTHCARE ACT TO BE DEBATED

US Supreme Court to rule on Affordable Healthcare Act – Obama’s healthcare reform bill
The US healthcare reforms supported by President Barack Obama are set to be debated, with the US Supreme Court planning to hear arguments on the constitutionality of the law.
The court is expected to host the hearing in Spring next year, and will, after hearing arguments from people against the Affordable Care Act, who claim that the clause which requires all Americans to purchase health insurance is too much and is an overreach of federal power, decide if this clause is legal and if not, whether the law itself should be continued or not.
According to the BBC, the White House is positive about the Supreme Court hearing, and is ‘confident’ that the law is constitutional.
White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer commented: “We know the Affordable Care Act is constitutional and are confident the Supreme Court will agree.”
The Act was passed into law in 2010 and the individual mandate clause will be implemented in early 2014.
