London Lawyer Joins Rapidly – Growing Team at Furley Page
A London lawyer who has worked for some of Kent’s most prominent and successful businesses has returned to the county to join leading law firm Furley Page, which has offices in Canterbury, Chatham, Whitstable and Lloyd’s of London.
Business law specialist Alyson Young, 40, brings a wealth of City expertise to Furley Page’s rapidly-expanding corporate team, recommended by The Legal 500 guide.
Alyson has an unrivalled understanding of the challenges that corporate clients face, having spent 10 years working in-house with some of Kent’s biggest names – including Eurotunnel, ICI subsidiary Quest International, and Dover Harbour Board.
Now the former Dover Grammar School for Girls pupil is relishing a return to work in her home county and is delighted to be able to bring her talent to the Kent market, while maintaining links with her London clients.
Alyson has a wealth of experience gained working in a PLC and institutional environment, giving her the ability to adapt and apply her legal knowledge and skills to businesses that do not have the luxury of an in-house lawyer.
She loves helping owners from start-up through growth to exit, and everything in-between. She has particular experience in the hospitality, travel and tourism, manufacturing, technology and e-commerce sectors.
Alyson can advise clients on a range of issues, including commercial contracts, shareholder, joint venture and partnership arrangements, day-to-day risk management, finance and securitisation, business sales and acquisitions, and IPR protection and licensing.
Susan Jennings, partner and head of the corporate team, said: “Alyson has a straight-talking, down-to-earth approach which is highly valued by clients. The immense knowledge she has gained from working inside business means she has a true grasp of the issues they face, and can advise on the most cost-effective, practical solutions.”
Alyson, who trained with Top 20 law firm Salans International and speaks French and German, moved into industry after qualifying in 1998. She returned to private practice three years ago in a central London law firm, where her most notable deals included handling multi-million-pound acquisitions for a leading independent London hotel company, and assisting with a commercial contract for a water supplier to the London 2012 Olympics.
Alyson has lived with her husband and two children in Shepherdswell, near Dover, for the last 10 years. When she’s not working she enjoys swimming, walking, playing the piano, and supporting her husband’s band.
