COMMITTEE TO QUESTION DRAFT FINANCIAL SERVICES BILL
15 Nov, 2011
George Osborne MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer (pictured) and Mark Hoban MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury are set to give evidence today (Tuesday 15th November) to Parliament’s Joint Committee on the Draft Financial Services Bill.
The Committee, who are considering whether the proposed Bill would better equip the UK to prevent or handle a future financial crisis or bank failure, will question Mr Osborne and Mr Hoban on a number of areas, including:
- The establishment of the Financial Policy Committee and what powers it should have.
- Mechanisms by which the Bank of England would be required to inform the Treasury of potential risks that could require tax payer bail-outs.
- How the structures set out in the Bill would allow for effective handling of any conflicts between monetary and macro-prudential policies.
The evidence session will take place at 3.45pm, on Tuesday 15 November in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House, London.
