Jones Day Madrid welcomes Mergers & Acquisitions partner Miguel Bermúdez de Castro and associate David Hernández

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that partner Miguel Bermúdez de Castro and associate David Hernández have joined the Firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in the Madrid Office. The two lawyers come to the Firm from the Madrid office of DLA Piper.

Mr. Bermúdez de Castro has more than 20 years of experience in corporate and finance matters and in pre-bankruptcy corporate restructuring. After beginning his career in Gomez Acebo, he started his own firm in 1999 and later founded Lexland Abogados, together with other local Spanish firms, as Partner in Charge of the Madrid office. In 2009, he joined DLA Piper as a partner.

David Hernández’s experience includes advising on domestic and international corporate and commercial transactions for Spanish companies and multinationals. He also has advised clients in capital markets and financial regulatory matters in Spain.

“We feel gratified that such a distinguished lawyer as Miguel has chosen to join our Firm,” said Federico Merino, leader of the M&A Practice in the Madrid Office. “His arrival reflects the Firm’s commitment to recruit lawyers of the highest caliber so as to maintain the highest standard of service to our clients.”

“In 20 years of practicing law, I have never before worked in such a well-integrated firm. Jones Day really operates as one firm worldwide, offering its clients seamless service, regardless of geographic location,” said Mr. Bermúdez de Castro. “Everything about the culture of the Firm reinforces the focus on integrated, high quality client service across a range of practices.”

The addition of Mr. Bermúdez de Castro and Mr. Hernández is part of an overall expansion plan for Jones Day Madrid, which recently moved to new offices with greater capacity.

“We are very selective choosing new lawyers to join our team here in Madrid and look for those who fit well with us and our culture,” said Mercedes Fernández, Partner-in-Charge of the Madrid Office. “We intend to grow not only in the corporate practice, but also in Labor & Employment, Tax, and Business Restructuring & Reorganization. We also don’t rule out expanding into new areas of practice and bringing in teams of lawyers from other local firms.”

Jones Day is a global law firm practicing in the major centers of business and finance throughout the world. Ranked among the world’s best and most integrated law firms, and perennially ranked among the best in client service, Jones Day acts as principal outside counsel to, or provides significant legal representation for, more than half of the Fortune Global 500 companies.
