TalkTalk and Tiscali UK fined £3m by Ofcom

Over 65,000 TalkTalk and Tiscali UK customers were found to have been wrongly charged, causing the two providers to be handed a fine of £3million.

The customers were billed for services they didn’t receive and an investigation was instigated following complaints from more than 1,000 people.

The largest fine regulator, Ofcom, said that the fine, the largest it has ever given a telecoms firm, reflected the ‘seriousness’ of their actions.

TalkTalk blamed the mistake of the amalgamation of Tiscali UK, whom it bought in 2009 and said that it was ‘disappointed at the scale of the fine’.

Acording to the BBC, the telecoms firm has since paid more than £2.5m in refunds to customers that were affected.
