Dean Fealk honoured by New Leaders Council as one of the top 40 progressive leaders under 40 Award
DLA Piper this week announced that San Francisco partner Dean Fealk has been named a 2011 ‘40 Under 40 Leader’ by the New Leaders Council (NLC), a national non-profit leadership organization that trains and supports the next generation of progressive political entrepreneurs.
The 40 Under 40 Awards were created by NLC to help recognize the hard work of a diverse group of young leaders: elected officials, inspiring community organizers, and non-profit and policy leaders who exemplify the spirit of progressive political entrepreneurship. The honorees are nominated by the progressive community, with winners chosen by a panel of judges, including John Podesta, the President and CEO of the Center for American Progress. This year’s award winners include non-profit executives, elected officials, professors, venture capitalists, doctors, lawyers, activists and more–all under the age of 40.Past winners have included Congressman Tim Ryan, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock and Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti.
“I am honored to be selected,” said Dean Fealk. “It’s humbling to be recognized among a group of truly inspiring young leaders that have taken on incredible challenges across the US. I applaud the tremendous work the NLC has done around the country promoting progressive values such as social justice and equal opportunity.”

Fealk and the other 40 Under 40 Leaders will be recognized at award ceremonies held in 13 cities across the nation during the month of July.
Dean Fealk, named by The Daily Journal to its list of California’s ‘Top 20 Attorneys under 40’ in 2010, advises leading multinational companies on a wide range of legal and strategic issues related to doing business overseas, including corporate, securities, regulatory, tax, labor, foreign exchange and data privacy. He has considerable experience in cross-border equity-based compensation programs and international employment matters in Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
A Marshall Memorial Fellow, Fulbright Scholar and Truman National Security Fellow, Fealk currently serves on the Finance Council of the California Democratic Party, the Executive Committee for International Law of the State Bar of California and the advisory group to the California Economic Strategy Panel. He is also a graduate of of Leadership San Francisco.
Fealk co-heads DLA Piper’s San Francisco pro bono committee which provides free legal services to those most underserved and under-represented in the community.
