Torus Appoints Jos

Torus, the global security insurer, has appointed José Ramón Gonzàlez as General Counsel, saed in Jersey City. Reporting to Clive Tobin, Chief Executive, he assumes overall responsibility for Torus’ legal, regulatory and compliance function worldwide.

Mr Gonzàlez joins Torus from Chartis (formerly AIG), where he was most recently Deputy General Counsel of its US operations. He joined AIG in 1999 as part of the law department’s Mergers and Acquisitions Group, representing the company globally in acquisitions, joint ventures and investments relating to AIG’s insurance and asset management businesses. During this time he gained extensive experience in East Asia, Europe and Latin America. Prior to joining AIG José was a corporate associate at the New York and London offices of Weil, Gotshal and Manges, LLP.

Torus provides property, casualty and specialty insurance, as well as reinsurance to a global client base through its European, US and Bermudian based subsidiaries. Launched in 2008, Torus now has over 500 employees in 13 offices worldwide. Torus carries a group rating of A – (excellent) from A.M. Best and has capital of approximately $1 billion provided by  First Reserve Corporation and Corsair Capital.
