BSkyB takeover gets green light

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation has been given the green light for its controversial takeover of BSkyB it was announced today. The controversial takeover will give Murdoch a vast reach, with media outlets across all platforms. The decision by the UK Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt not to refer the matter to the Competition Commission was made in light of the revised proposal made by News Corp to dispose of Sky News. Mr Hunt said this would “address concerns about media plurality”. Clearly the likes of Associated Newspapers and Trinity Mirror strongly disagree – in a joint statement they said “We shall be vigorously contesting this whitewash of a proposal during the consultation period, as well as examining all legal options”.
